Σε εποχές οικονομικής κρίσης η τηλεόραση μεταμορφώνεται αυτόματα σε ένα κουτί με προγράμματα χαμηλού κόστους χωρίς κανένα πολιτιστικό ή κοινωνικό υπόβαθρο. Η αλήθεια είναι ότι δεν ήμουν ποτέ μεγάλη οπαδός των εκπομπών της τηλεόρασης. Φέτος έτυχε να παρακολουθήσω περισσότερο από κάθε άλλη χρονιά είτε για ενημέρωση λόγο των ερχόμενων εκλογών, είτε λόγο του ότι γνωστοί μου λαμβάνουν μέρος σε εκπομπές ταλέντων (το κάθε σπίτι και Ανδρέας που λέγαμε στην Κύπρο αντικαταστάθηκε με το κάθε σπίτι και ταλέντο).  Θεωρώ λοιπόν ότι ο Καπουντζίδης είναι ό,τι καλύτερο έχει να δείξει η ελληνική και κυπριακή τηλεόραση αυτή τη στιγμή, από όποια πλευρά και να το δεις. Καταρχάς είναι η χαρά του Θεού που λέμε, σε κάνει να νιώθεις ευτυχισμένος μόνο που εμφανίζεται. Καλοσυνάτος, χιουμοριστικός και γλυκύτατος, μεταφέρει μια απίστευτη θετική ενέργεια! Οι γνώσεις του πολυδιάστατες και το επίπεδό του ψηλότερο από το πύργο από ποτήρια στο κεφάλι του Κκαντή. Αυτό που με συγκίνησε απίστευτα εντούτοις ήταν τα λόγια που είπε σε ένα μικρούλι, μετά που τραγούδησε για το μπούλιγκ (πανέμορφοι στίχοι και χίλια μπράβο του). «Να μάθετε στα παιδιά σας ότι το παιδί που είναι διαφορετικό δε το βάζουμε στη γωνία», λέει στους γονείς ο Καπουντζίδης και συνεχίζοντας κάνει ένα μικρό μάθημα για την έννοια της δημοκρατίας «Δημοκρατία δε σημαίνει μόνο να λέει ο καθένας ότι θέλει. Δεν είναι αυτός ο ορισμός της δημοκρατίας. Η σωστή δημοκρατία είναι η χώρα στην οποία η πλειοψηφία λαμβάνει υπόψη της και προστατεύει τις αδύναμες μειονότητες. Αυτό είναι δημοκρατία». Στη χώρα που γέννησε τη δημοκρατία, χρειάζεται υπενθύμιση του τι σημαίνει δημοκρατία. Ειδικά αναφερόμενοι στην  Κύπρο του σήμερα, που τα δεδομένα άλλων ανεπτυγμένων χωρών μας φαντάζουν μακρινά. Αν λοιπόν αγαπητοί γονείς διερωτάστε τι να πείτε στα παιδιά σας όταν συναντούν κάτι διαφορετικό στο δρόμο τους (κρίμα αν κάνατε παιδιά και δεν ξέρετε πώς να τους δώσετε τη στοιχειώδη κοινωνική μόρφωση), να λέτε αυτό. Δε παραμερίζουμε τη διαφορετικότητα. Την υποστηρίζουμε και την αγκαλιάζουμε, γιατί μπορεί αυτό το διαφορετικό που μας εκπλήσσει σήμερα να διαγράψει την μελλοντική μας πορεία. Είμαστε υπόχρεοι να αναγνωρίζουμε την πλεονεκτική μας θέση στο χάρτη της ανθρωπότητας, καθώς και να υποστηρίζουμε αυτούς που το χρειάζονται (αύριο ίσως βρεθούμε στη δική τους θέση άλλωστε). Η ποιότητα του ανθρώπου δε φαίνεται στη συμπεριφορά του απέναντι στους όμοιους του, αλλά σε αυτούς που τον έχουν ανάγκη.   Καλές Γιορτές! Κ.Σ.

Izambella Christodoulou is a freelance makeup artist based in Larnaca, Cyprus. After following a make up course in one of the best schools on the subject in Athens “PANSIK scull di moda”, she expanded her studies in fashion and design in “Vellios School of Art”. Izambella is in her early twenties and already met great success through her passion for make up.  She is definitely an example of how social media can be great tool to success in contemporary world. “What I would like to share with everyone trying to find their way, is to turn your passion into your  job. Natalia Markou is the founder of The Art Cocoon, an online contemporary art gallery in Dubai, UAE, with a mission to promote upcoming and mid-career Greek and Cypriot artists. Through, social media, exhibitions, and participations in international art fairs, the gallery exposes the artists’ work, to new international audiences, focusing in the Middle East region. She previously worked as a Senior IT Analyst at international companies in the industries of banking systems and telecommunications, traveling around the world for her companies’ projects. After her decision to make a career change, she worked independently as an Interior Designer, on residential projects, before moving with her family to Dubai in 2010. Her passion for art was combined with her experience in computer science to create an online platform to present and promote artists from her home country. Her gallery, The Art Cocoon, realized in 2015 where she presented a first selection of six artists from Cyprus. The gallery’s latest participation at World Art Dubai art fair in 2017, was awarded in the category of Best Regional Art Gallery. Natalia received her B.A. in Computer Science from Athens University of Economics and Business, a Diploma in Interior Design from Frederik University, and Curating Contemporary Art Course from University of the Arts London. In addition, she completed several art related courses on the art markets, combining her experience from the corporate world she helps artists move to the next level of their career. Natalia is a woman filled with passion and dedication to what she does. Her advice to all the women trying to achieve their goals is “Don’t let anyone discourage you from moving forward with your dreams. Stay positive and confident in your abilities. Everything is possible when you do what you love”. Lets meet her:

Dreams. Growing up we all have them. I like to think of dreams as the rainbow of the brain. Where magic begins. Where amazing things happen. We all had that escape corner where we let our fantasy to create free during our childhood, some of us kept it alive through time.   In dreaming there is no limit, no rules or structure. While dreaming your spirit is free. One has to be able to distinguish imagination from reality though. Dreaming of a future life is a privilege, but it can easily become a curse when expecting life to follow a certain path. Our generation, going now towards thirty, somehow lost reality between the colours of imagination. Somewhere between dreaming and living, we let ourselves sailing in the sea of our own high expectations.   It’s not an easy thing to take those kids from the “Neverland”, where growing up was never an issue, and throw them suddenly into thirties, where statistically you have great chances to have reached your middle life line. It’s stressful and mind-blowing thinking about all the things you were expected to achieve by now, all the success you were meant to reach…and oh the crisis you were left in.   We definitely are not experiencing the life we were promised. Having a full time job behind a desk and a computer was the path to success at some point. Not today though. Today you are probably being used, working many hours’ unpaid overtime, your knowledge and all the money you have invested in studying are not even respected in many cases.   So here you are, between taking some of the most important decisions in your life and accepting the fact that most of the times what you thing should happen is not going to. On the contrary life is a path full of surprises. Never stop following your dreams, but don’t let your dreams to drown you.   P.S. All the posts are about personal experiences and opinions. P.S. II Karoshi – in Japanese means worked to death. Don’t do it, is not worth it!

Annie is an interesting and expressive person, just like her painting. She studied science in Manchester University and then became a Credit Analyst in Merchant Banking in the city of London. Even though Annie had a promising career, her passion with painting drew her to change path. “I decided my life would have more meaning by becoming a full time artist, so I did just that.” She is the founder of “The Magma Group” with international expressionist artists based in London UK The artist has exhibited in London, New York, Paris, Athens and Arizona and been selected for the Liverpool Biennial (2010 and 2016) and the European Capital of Culture Festival (2008). She appeared in a number of published books on Stuckism, and in November 2016 her satirical painting of Prince Charles was featured in an article in The Londoner’s Diary of the Evening Standard . Annie is an inspiring passionate woman, a fighter and a dreamer. Lets meet Annie:

Free thinking is a privilege one could achieve with constantly searching the variety and perspectives of truth. Following a guided path towards self-developing, either under social standards, religious beliefs or any form of pressure, is highly unlikely to become someone free spirited. The responsibility of taking your own decisions is huge, as it comes with the risk of seeking the reason of a future failure within yourself. Well, flash news, is better to fail for your own choices, than being miserable in never taking the chance of following your intuition. In order to take your own choices though, you have to develop your personality first. You have to know who you are to find what you want. People change. Circumstances change. Older people used to tell us that we will be in their shoes sooner than we think, like they have been once in ours. It happened. And we keep following the steps of their shoes, cause is one-way road. And it’s going fast. So, stop worrying so much and, if you do, stop following other people expectations. Not humanity nor planet hangs by your hands (unless you are Donald or Kim, please reconsider). You can relax and make some mistakes. Better off, enjoy them! We have the privilege of countless opportunities and the power of unlimited knowledge nowadays. Even choosing a sexual orientation might need some thinking. Be who you want to be (just don’t be a hater, a racist or a rapist). “The good life is one inspired by love and guided by knowledge. SELF-CREATION through art

Art is not only a field, is a path. A path towards self-discovery and growth. As a twelve-year-old, quite active kid you could say, I had to go through a painful surgery that placed me on a wheel chair for three months. Between boredom and frustration, I discovered my passion with painting. Since then it has been the mean to express my feelings and thoughts. This could have been the reason I found action painting and expressionism to be the most influential techniques in my work. Art in society, especially where I come from, is considered as a luxury item. This might be one of the biggest issues on establishing a developed contemporary culture, with all the possibilities that holds within it.  Creativity should not be received as a given talent, but a skill that anyone could achieve. As an art tutor, I came to the conclusion that children grow into more independent adults through art, as they learn to create opportunities, instead of expecting to find them on their way. Between artistic experimentations one can learn how to think outside the box, build character and his own unique personality, against the formation of society. Therefore, no matter how old you are or what were your choices and chances in life, seek the opportunity to become more creative, to open your eyes and see colours, to open your mind and receive light. Art, and especially painting, has most definitely change my life. Not so much in becoming someone, but more likely in being someone. We all look to find happiness in life from our own perspective and experiences. However, the greatest achievement one can accomplish, in my belief, is self-discovery. Welcome on board. KS
